Did you ever get a call from a marketer that they can place you on the first page of Google? I recommend that you politely reply I know it's already there. That would be of course if you bothered to set up a FREE listing on Google, you should do the same of Microsoft Bing and Yahoo. If you allow the Snake Oil Salesman into your office, they will pull out another "cat" out of the bag, "I searched for you on Google, but your results don't come up."
Google gives us all results based on our usage and preference as well as location currently and most used. For instance, if I lived in Boca Raton, Florida, and were searching for a dentist, it would give me the ones closest to my preferences and location. Google also takes into consideration the places you already visited.
So how do we make a fair assessment of a "Search Result?"
I have a client that every time someone calls on them or walks in the door with a new idea, I inevitably get a phone call. The first time it was offering free Wifi in exchange for an email address. Playing along, I set up the logos and links for the opening screen as well as connecting and testing the entire service. I informed my client that their location was not suited for their closed location. "The fishing expedition" would be more suited to a mall or location that had additional external traffic. No one other than the client and myself ever signed up, and it is still running.
Today a photographer/video professional showed up for pictures and video that I had requested. I request this after several employees leave the practice and so the faces don't match the personalized theme I have presented them as. They are upscale, very customer service oriented and present well with a customized message.
To be able to follow, let's call the owner "Bob Smart" and the business "Burger Maven." The photographer, after finishing with my client, mentioned that she offered social services. The photographer turned marketing specialist notified the owners when he searched on Google for "Bob" the owners first name and "Burger Maven" there were no results for their business.
As you can very well imagine I received a phone call right after the meeting. The owner's partner informed me that I needed to correct the problem immediately. I replied that I would look into it and fix any issues related to their results. There is no point in arguing with someone who believes that you are not doing your job. Instead, it is best to show them you are doing your job.
I ran tests on desktop, laptop, and mobile, using three networks so Google wouldn't serve me the same results. I also blocked my location and used "Incognito Mode," so that my desktop, laptop, and smart-phone preferences would not skew the results. Google can tell based on IP addresses where I am which is ok because we are targeting a specific geographic area.
Here are the results...
Desktop Computer: SEARCH: Bob Smart (owners full name)
Desktop Computer SEARCH: Smart Restaurants (owners last name and industry)
Desktop Computer: SEARCH: Bob Smart Restaurants (owners complete name and industry)
Desktop Computer: SEARCH: Bob Restaurants (owners first name and industry)
Laptop: SEARCH: Smart Burgers (owners last name and industry)
Laptop: SEARCH: Smart Restaurants (owners last name, and industry)
Laptop: SEARCH: Mr. Smart Restaurants (title, owners last name, and restaurant)
Laptop: SEARCH: Bob Restaurants (owners first name and industry)
Repeated similar results on Google Incognito on a Smartphone.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to switch vendors, for instance many doctors use an EHR/EMR vendor who is not providing what they promised or are charging much more than the competition, we help move them to a new vendor.

I used to work for an SEO company, there are plenty of websites that cater to creating custom reports for SEOs that can use the same data to make it look great or someone not doing their job. They should show real stats like sales.
